My WorkArounds

In my experience, if my Android phone’s screen is cracked and unresponsive to touch but still functional, I’ve found a few potential solutions to retrieve my files. First, I recommend trying a USB mouse. In my case, I connected a USB mouse to my Android phone using an OTG (On-The-Go) adapter. This allowed me to control my phone with the mouse pointer, and typically, a USB mouse worked without the need for additional setup. I connected the mouse to the phone using the OTG adapter, and I was able to interact with the device.

Alternatively, if you have a Bluetooth mouse, you can pair it with your Android phone. This might be more convenient as it eliminates the need for a physical cable, but remember to ensure that Bluetooth functionality is enabled on your phone.

Another option I’ve tried is using a USB-C to HDMI adapter to connect my phone to a TV or monitor. Once connected, I could use the TV or monitor as an external display. Additionally, I connected a USB or Bluetooth mouse to interact with my phone.

For those whose phones support screen mirroring, this feature can be useful. There are various apps and software solutions available for screen mirroring. Once mirrored, you can control your phone using the computer’s mouse and retrieve your files.

If these methods don’t work, and if the data on my phone is crucial, I suggest considering replacing the cracked screen. I took my phone to a professional repair service to replace the screen, allowing me to regain touch functionality and access my files.

It’s important to note that these methods might vary in effectiveness depending on the phone model and the specific damage it has incurred. I always prioritize regular backups to avoid data loss in situations like these. If unable to retrieve the files through the mentioned methods, seeking professional assistance from a phone repair service may be necessary.

In my case, I also checked for user reviews online, both on the manufacturer’s website and other retailers. This gave me an idea of whether others were experiencing similar issues with the same device model.

Before resorting to drastic measures, it’s essential to thoroughly troubleshoot the issue. Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolving an unresponsive Android screen:

Visual Inspection

  1. Examine or Do Quick Test Screen: Carefully examine the device’s screen for any visible cracks, chips, or damage. Pay close attention to the edges and corners of the display.

If you have recently updated your device then make sure you roll back because it can cause a lot of issues including where the touchscreen not working or not responding.-

Fix 3: Safe Mode

If you are unable to identify the specific app that may be causing the issue, you can try booting your device in Safe Mode. If the unresponsiveness problem disappears in Safe Mode, it is likely that a third-party app is the culprit.

You can then try uninstalling recently installed apps one by one until the issue is resolved. If the problem persists even in Safe Mode, it may be due to a system-level issue, and you may need to consider resetting your device to its factory settings or seeking professional assistance.

Once in Safe Mode, check if the touch screen responds normally. If it does, the issue likely lies with a third-party app.

  • Make sure that your hands are clean and dry. Greasy or wet hands can make it difficult for the touch screen to register your touches.
  • Remove any screen protectors that you have installed. Screen protectors can sometimes interfere with the touch screen’s ability to register your touches.
  • Try using a different stylus. If you are using a stylus, try using a different one to see if it makes a difference.
  • Avoid using the touch screen in direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can make it difficult for the touch screen to register your touches.

Fix 8: Developer Options

As suggested in one of the comments, enable Developer Options on your phone. You can do this by tapping on the build number in the “About phone” section multiple times. Once enabled, explore the developer options for any settings related to touchscreen behavior.

Fix 9: Battery Optimization

As another comment suggests, disable battery optimization for system UI and launcher. Live wallpapers and certain customizations might also affect performance.

Battery optimization should be turned off, or make sure it’s turned off for System OS apps. For instance, you are using a Samsung phone so, there’s ONEUI, make sure it’s disabled for it.

Remember to try these steps one at a time, and check if the issue is resolved after each step. If the problem persists, it may be best to contact your device manufacturer’s support or visit a service center for further assistance.
